When we are doing amazing in life, it’s easy to feel like a million bucks. But when it feels like everything is getting sucked into the toilet the easiest thing to do would be to go with the flow.
Earlier this week, I was talking to a new friend of mine (you know who you are! Hi!). She is growing so fast in her faith, and is already looking for ways to combat the enemy’s thoughts in her head. Some Christian Special Forces level stuff if you ask me. That conversation inspired this blog.

A bar of gold is worth the same amount, whether it’s polished perfectly or scratched and dirty. It is the same for Christians. When we are doing amazing in life, it’s easy to feel like a million bucks. But when it feels like everything is getting sucked into the toilet the easiest thing to do would be to go with the flow.
But that is not how God sees us. Human’s live primarily in the physical dimension. God lives in the spiritual. And do you want to know what He sees when He looks at you when your life is going down the tube?
He sees perfection.
While the physical world is concerned about what you do, God is concerned about who you are. You know that bar of gold? The enemy wants you to think that bar of gold is just a bar of chocolate, and he will do anything he can for you not to spend it.
When the enemy comes at you with all these mind games, telling you how bad you messed up, how little you are worth, how sick and poor you are, don’t believe him. This is why God only has one commandment for believers: To Believe in Him. If you are busy believing God, you won’t have time to believe anyone else! Not the enemy, not you, not your friends, not that girl on your feed.
In your head, there is a battle going on. God and you are on one side, and the enemy is on the other. But get this: The war is won already. Jesus beat the enemy to a pulp. But the battle that is happening is the enemy trying to tell you that the war is still on. You are already saved. You are perfect in the spiritual realm (which is the more important one). But the enemy is looking on the mud stuck on the bar of gold and saying “”Look! that’s not gold! That’s just chocolate!”
The best way to combat a lie is with the truth. When the enemy comes at you late at night with a detailed list of the last 300 times you said something bad about your parents, then shows you the bible verse that says people who disrespect their parents are cursed, here is what you do: Tell the enemy to talk to your Lawyer.
The enemy is taking you to court. And he is a great lawyer, but the law is on your side. Jesus is the greatest lawyer every, and your crimes have already been atoned for. Your sins are already forgiven. No matter how many times the enemy brings up something you’ve done, you cannot be sent to jail for the same crime more than once. And Jesus went to jail for you.
So when the enemy says, “look at yourself!” Look at Jesus. Because you are in Him, looking at yourself would mean you need to look at Him.
So how does this work practically?
Well, I’m glad you asked! There are a lot of ways to fight the enemy, but here is one:
Step 1: Read your Bible.
Remember that bar of gold? by washing that dirt off it, you not only show the enemy that it is in fact not a chocolate bar, you also reveal the beautiful gold underneath. The Bible is the water by which we wash our soul and body. When you read the truth, you expose and destroy the lies. So read your Bible and believe that God is washing you with His words.
Step 2: Say it.
There was a woman once who was walking home late after an evening church service. The pastor taught on Psalm 91 and how God “… will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find protection.”
As the woman was walking home, a man grabbed her by the hair and started dragging her into a dark alley. In her panic, the woman screamed “FEATHERS! FEATHERS! FEATHERS!” And the man let her go and started running away from her.
Hard to explain, but in that moment, that woman was calling on God, and I’m pretty sure the man heard God’s answer.
When it comes to protection, in your body or mind, it’s not about getting the words perfect or being in a meditative state. It’s about saying it. God knows what you mean, but when you say His word you prove to yourself and to God that you believe Him, and not the enemy.
Below are a few phrases from the Bible that you can start with. You can pick one, or more, our find another one from the Bible.
That’s all it is folks! Two steps: Read your Bible, say it out loud.
One last thing before we go regarding saying it out loud; some people might think, God can hear my prayer if I say it in my head. You are correct, but you can’t. There is something special about saying things out loud.
Try it with me right now. In your mind, count to ten: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10.
Okay now do it again, but this time, when you get to 5, say “Space Chickens!” out loud.
What happened when you said “Space Chickens”? You stopped counting.
When thoughts are in your head that you don’t like, yours or the enemies, do step 2. The thoughts will stop. Sometimes you need to do step 2 for 3 hours before the thoughts stop coming back, but they will stop.
